Day trip from Paris to Verdun

Hi,

Has anyone done a day trip from Paris to Verdun. We know it is doable but needs to be planned well. We are most interested in taking the train to Reims then taking a tour of the Verdun sites. Any advice would be appreciated on tour operators and from others who have done this.

thanks,

We did a day trip from Reims to Verdun. We were staying there and had a car. It is a lovely drive on their fabulous highway system and then country roads - the D112. We went to the Ossuary, up to the Fort Douaumont, and to the Musee Fleury. It is all close together.
My hubby is not a war history buff and somehow had gotten through 55 plus years without an good understanding of the suffering of WWI in this area. In the gift shop of the Ossuary were those machines that show those old time double photos and he was blown away by the horror.
We then drove to Epernay for some champagne and dinner. It is all close together and great roads! It is the from and return to Paris I am not familiar with as I always drive. So no tour info either, sorry.

from above post: "without an good understanding of the suffering of WWI in this area."

In the Douaumont Ossuary are the unidentified remains of 130,000 French and German soldiers killed during the Battle of Verdun. These 130,000 unidentified are out of a total of about 230,000 soldiers killed and 700,000 total casualties (dead, missing, and wounded).
