I've heard so much about Mont St Michel and would like to visit. Is it possible to take the train/bus/any kind of day tour to Mont St Michel without having to rent a car? We will be staying in Paris close to the Eiffel Tower, should we spend one night close by Mont St Michel? Thanks everyone!
You could prob take a tour from Paris but it would be a long day. I stayed in Bayeux and Mt St Michel one night ea. it was wonderful. If you are tight for time you could stay in Bayeux take a Mt St Michel tour from there and see Bayeux at night and return to Paris next day.
I probably do have time to spend a couple of nights away from Paris. So do I take a train ride to Bayeux, spend the night there, then take a bus to Mont St Michel ?
Wendy having just got back from Paris, I think it "IS" possible but it would be with a tour.
Your best bet is to splurge and rent a car when you get to Bayeux or Caen by train.
We decided to rent a car in Paris and I really am glad we did. The drive was nice and leisurly, and I was also glad the car had a GPS.
If you want more details on renting a car, PM me.
From Paris (we stayed by Notre Dame) it took 3 hours to get to Omaha Beach, then 1.5 hours to cut over to Mt. St. Michel. We stayed in a chateau near MSM and then drove to Bayeux the next day before heading back to Paris.
Many of the people who visit Mont St. Michel during the day arrive on bus tours from Paris, so yes, it is possible to see it as a day trip. Not ideal (the island is choked with tourists during the day), but definately feasible.
Thanks everyone! I think we will seriously consider renting a car and spend a couple of nights outside Paris and really enjoy the countryside :) Really appreciate your help!!
