Trying to decide between these two towns for day trip from Paris. We have done all the usual day trips and looking for something different. Been to Normandy but did not see Rouen. Quaint cobble streets, interesting architecture, a nice lunch with good wine are appealing. Leaning towards Beaune because we so enjoyed the wine tasting in St Emilion and the charm of that little town. OTHO, I know the cathedral in Rouen is very impressive and the Norman style buildings are quaint. Will, of course, travel by train.
It sounds as though you have thought this through and have good information.
If you are truly indifferent, Rouen is closer, with a shorter trip time. The ramparts in Beaune are not magnificent in the way of Rouen's cathedral, but they make a charming walk, and the Hotel Dieu is very interesting.
Otherwise, is there anything we can tell you to help you make up your mind?
Lionheart's heart is not buried in the Beaune cathedral, nor was Jeanne d'Arc executed just down the street. Rouen has good grub.
You can walk every street in the center of Beaune and wander through the Hotel Dieu in three hours. I don't like wine.
