Both chateaux, Fontainebleau and Compiegne, sound very beautiful, both are about the same distance from Paris.
Which would you choose? Why?
Thanks for helping me decide.

Chani,
I haven't been to Compeigne but I thought Fontainebleau was fabulous. It's much more Italian than French so if you enjoy that style I would highly recommend it. You can also combine it with a visit to Vaux-le-Vicompte, the smaller chateau that Versailles was modeled on. We went on a weekday and really enjoyed the lack of big crowds like you have at Versailles. Instructions on how to combine these 2 chateaus are in Rick's Paris book and are easier to do than it may seem.
