We will be staying in Colmar this summer for just a few days. I am wondering if anyone has taken a train from Colmar to Lucerne for a day trip. I would love to know about any experiences or recommendations. Thanks so much!
Solely from a transportation viewpoint, it can be done quite easily. You can get from Colmar to Luzern by train in just over two hours with one connection in Basel. Trains run at least once an hour.
We were in Lucerne last fall. I'd comment that if your trip involves Strasbourg or Avignon or even Freiburg or Besancon, maybe you don't "need" to spend four hours on the train. There are some great art collections in Lucerne, but there's plenty to see while you're in Alsace. I know Perouges is hard without a car, but I'd rather go there. I'm also sorry I missed the Le Corbusier chapel in Ronchamp, but that also is simpler with a car.
