Day trip from Arles

We will be in Arles May 17 (1/2 day), 18, and 19. The 17th will be spent exploring Arles. The 18th we will be on an all day wine tour that includes Pont du Gard, leaving and returning to Avignon. Then we will explore Avignon and eat dinner there. The 19th I was hoping to see Aix-en-Provence and Isla Sur la Torgue if possible. What is the best way to get to each of these towns from Arles? Maybe its better to go to Avignon to make connections?

I don't really know what is in these towns to see, just heard they were charming and nice. Are they worth seeing or is one more interesting then the other? If not, we have an extra day in Arles to do something fun, any suggestions?

I can't recall if you'll have a car, Melissa. There are buses, but they're limited. It would be hard to see Isle sur la Sorgue without one. Avignon is the closest large town to it, though.

Aix is a long ways from the other sights in Provence. While pretty, it's full of the usual chain upscale shopping and doesn't justify the time to get there. I'd rather go to Les Baux and St. Remy.

Arles is worth at least 1 day or more for museum, bullfight ring, views, open market, walking the lovely small streets, cafe sitting.. A car is generally recom for Provence area. Ck with tourist board of Avignon and Arles perhaps you could take a bus tour guided if you prefer not to rent a car.

When we stayed in Arles last September we also took a day trip to Nimes (about 20 minutes away on the train). Has a similar arena, the Square House and lots of fun shopping.
