Day trip by rent-a-car from Paris to Beaune

We will be traveling in June to Paris for 6 days and would like to know if it is a good idea to do a day trip to Beaune by car? We are limited to 6 days and some of us have been to Paris before and some have not so we want to show those who have not been to Paris, the main sights and then we would like to do a day trip to Beaune and enjoy some wine tasting there. Any suggestions?

Hi,
I suggest you use www.viamichelin.com to see how long the drive is from Paris to Beaune. When we did it a few years ago I am sure that we stayed somewhere on the way before having about 3 nights in Beaune. Beaune is lovely but I am sure you would need to at least overnight, preferably 2 nights if the drive is acheivable in a day.

I suggest you use viamichelin to calculate a drive that you are familiar with and compare their time to your travel time (I think it does the US). We found that anything they described as a 4-5 hour trip was a day trip for us. I think it took us ages to get out of Paris as we started on the wrong road etc.

ViaMichelin gives a driving time of 2hrs 55mins from the center of Paris to Beaune, about 190 miles one way. Some travelers doing this trip would choose to pick up the rental car from the airport (CDG) or other rental car pick-up location outside the center of Paris. The driving time from CDG to Beaune is given by ViaMichelin as 3hr 15 mins.

Sue.. We love the area of Burgundy... we were just there in October and November. We get our car at Orly and then hop on the A6 for the drive down. I do think that it is too far, however , for a day trip if you are coming back to Paris. By the time you get your car and get out of the city.. even if you start at Orly...it is a good 4 hours or more if you are going into Beaune... and by the time you look around you would not have much time there before you had to return. A nice trip might be to visit the small villages that are not so far south like Montreal ,Vezelay, Chateauneuf, Flavigny, Semur-en Auxious, Avallon, Chablis, etc. If you want to go to Beaune you could stay overnite. The area around the Burgundy Canal is lovely and a little north of Beaune. You could take a canal boat ride down the canal.

I will be in Paris in early June and am planning a day trip to Dijon-Beaune, but will be going by train, which is only a 90 minute trip from Paris to Dijon.
