A few months ago I thought I saw somewhere that there were some hotels near the Frankfurt airport where you could pay a lower rate to check in for a number of hours during the day. But now I can't find any info. As I recall there was a fancy hotel connected ? to the airport but it was like $200. Then I thought I found there were some other ones. I saved the Park Inn in my favorites (supposedly for this reason) but I can't find anything on their website nor is Google helping me find any hotels offering this. We are landing in Frankfurt at 6:00 am after a transatlantic flight and would like to sleep/rest before a 4:30 pm flight to Rome. Thanks for whatever help any one can provide.
I'll just say that if you sleep the day away you will not get over your jetlag.
Janet, these hotel listings are from the Frankfurt am Main airport website. They all provide FAX numbers. You could try faxing each one in English and telling them your schedule. You'd probably have to pay for overnight and arrange for late check-out around 2 p.m. in advance, at which time you'd have to get back to the airport. http://www.frankfurt-airport.com/content/frankfurt_airport/en/directions_parking/hotels_at_the_airport2.html Also, if you go to the airport home page and look at "services" at the top of the page, they list showers with everything provided, among all their other services, among which are also chapels. Maybe somebody will come up with a better idea....
You would be better off just paying a charge to stay in one of the lounges. Showers, food, places to rest. Other wise, just go into the city instead, walk in the sunlight. That will help with your jetlag. Or you could rent a budget room or a hostel room for a fraction of what the hotels at the airport charge. Considering the train only takes 11 minutes to get into the city, you will get there faster than waiting on most of the shuttles that go to the hotels. Only the Steigenberger and NH hotels have quick and frequent shuttles.
Jo - Or others - What's the story with the train from Frankfurt airport to the city that you mentioned in your response to me In January? (We have an overnight in Frankfurt on our return from Italy to the US.) Where do I find info on it online? Or can you give me more details? Where I find it at the Frankfurt airport? How much it costs? Where it goes that would be a likely place to find a budget (under $80-@100) hotel? I have been looking online for places near the airport with shuttles but have not found anything that looks like the shuttles are reliable and yet is not too expensive. Thanks for whatever help you can give me. Janet
I just posted an extensive description about taking the train into Frankfurt and what to see and do there over in the Transportation section. For hotels, I like using www.hrs.com, but if you just want a budget hotel near the train station, I would look at Excelsior or Hotel Monopol or the Bristol. Those hotels at the airport are a pain in the neck with the shuttles, unless you are staying at the Sheraton. Only Steigenberger has a shuttle that runs often and quickly. The other shuttles you may end up waiting 30 min. to an hour and they often charge you per person to go back to the airport. I also agree with walking around Frankfurt rather than sleeping. It will help you get over your jetlag faster.
Walking to the Sheraton from the airport is convenient- there is a land bridge between one of the terminals and the hotel- but it would be expensive. (We had to do a day room once as my wife injured her leg at the airport so we couldnt walk around Frankfurt as we had planned.) As we had not reserved ahead we had to wait until after 10 am so they could see if they had rooms available.
