Is it safe to take a day tour to Morocco from Torremolinos? How often are the ferries cancelled due to high winds?

The closest ferry to Torremolinos is Malaga and it goes to Melilla and takes about eight hours to get there. That wouldn't exactly be my idea of a day trip. In fact, I think it's the same boat that plods back and forth so you'd have only a couple hours turn-around. I guess the ferry's safe. Melilla's safe and pretty interesting - - it sure beats Tangier.
