We are going to travel in Germany and Switzerland, and I need the use of my computer while we are there. We land in Zurich and go directly to Germany for a week. Can I purchase a SIM card with data (for Germany) before I leave? I know I can purchase one for Switzerland at the airport, but I need one for Germany first. We will be in small towns in Germany where there are not too many services. Any suggestions?
Jane, I just returned from Germany. I know you can purchase SIMs in Germany, but I didn't bother. I used an old SIM from the U.K. instead. If you have time, see if you can find one on ebay. I know I've seen ones for Vodafone being sold. You may need to start on the ebay site specifically set up for the U.K. to get good search results. Also, I'd check out whether a Swiss SIM will permit roaming in Germany. The T-Mobile U.K. SIM I had did and at relatively decent rates. It may be that a cell company in Switzerland will let you do that, too. I'd see if you can find a web site for those companies and read their web pages. Google or someone else can translate pages if you aren't fluent.
