Have any of you visited DCC? If so, did you do it on your own - or with a tour. I have heard mixed reviews and since I am leaving in two days - want to know if I should book a tour or just try to do it on my own. Will be travelling with my adult son - 30 years old. Thx.

I visited Dachau a few years ago. We drove in rental car to it. It is on outskirts of Munich but not too far out. You might find bus from Munich that goes out there. It was a nice 2 hr stop off. I found it to be a most sobering place but glad that I went. Hint: many people claim that NO birds ever fly over the work camp. We did not see one bird and there are a lot of very tall trees that you walk through from the parking lot to the actual camp gate. Weird. I would not think you would need a tour to take you out there unless you had no other way to get there. Just read up on some history of the camp and then take the self-guided tour there.
