D-Day tour companies

My husband and I will be in Bayeux at the end of June for a couple of days. Is a half-day tour of the D-day sites long enough or is a full day tour much better? Some of the tour companies I read about seemed to not want you on their tour if you had not studied a great deal before the tour. Which tour companies do you recomment?

Carol, Could you provide a bit of further information about the tour companies that "seemed to not want you on their tour if you had not studied a great deal before the tour". I've never found that to be the case with the ones I've used. Some of the firms you could consider..... > www.ddayhistorian.com (Paul Woodage) > www.daleboothnormandytours.com (Dale Booth) > www.overlordtour.com (various Guides) You'll have to contact the various firms to find the one that best fits with your price and other criteria. I'd suggest booking WELL in advance! Happy travels!

If you haven't done, you might want to have a look at what Rick Steves says about it at the following link. He talks about a company called 'D-Day Battle Tours' being for 'true enthusiasts'. Maybe that's what you stumbled across. He makes other suggestions that may be more suitable for you, some of which Ken mentions above. http://www.ricksteves.com/plan/destinations/france/dday2.htm

My daughter and I did the half-day with Overlord in late March 2012. WHile the tour was excellent as was our guide Sean, next time I go (with my husband) we will opt for the full day. There was no requirement nor was I made to feel like I needed to bone up on my DDay history before hand. Our guide was extremely knowledgeable and passionate about the subject. But, given it was a hf day, and part of that is spent driving, we didn't really spend alot of time at sites...10-15 minutes here and there; about 35 at the American Cemetery. I just felt like there was so much more to see and learn, if we had more time.

Carol, we toured for 3 full days in '08 with Paul Woodadge, ddayhistorian.com. https://www.facebook.com/DDayHistorian?ref=ts&fref=ts FABULOUS. You will regret not spending a full day or two or three. You don't need study, just interest in seeing such moving and historical places. You will hear stories you will never forget. If we ever have the opportunity to return, Paul will be our guide.
By the way, SHSU is my alma mater.

We toured with Battlebus tours (Dale Booth has own company now) for three full days. We did the American Experience two day tour of the beaches and sights and the one day Band of Brother tour. It was well worth every penny we spent. I would use Dale again.

We used Battlebus tours maybe 4-5 years ago on a full day tour. Dale Booth was the guide and he has his own company now. I would highly recommend a full day tour over a half day tour. Dale was great and I would recommend him.
