Has anyone taken a trip to the Normandy and Loire Valley in April? Possibly thinking of taking our 16 year old Grandson there on his spring break, which would be the very first of April for about 8 or 9 days, not including outbound and return flight. How is the weather, and also is most everything open that time of year? Thank you for your response!
We visited Normndy from April 14 to 19 this year using Arromanches as base. All museums open; I believe April begns the high season for travel and tourism, but we encounterd no crowds at museums and sitesdefinitely a plus. I bet your grandson would enjoy the two D-Day museums in Arromanches; check RS info on both an read up on the Mulberry Harbor and Port Winstonfascinating part of the D-Day story. Weather: either pleasant and sunny or windy and rainy. Plan for late winter/brisk spring weather and be pleased if it's nicer. Amboise from April 22 to 25; again, everything open for busines with the same weather and no crowds to dodge!
The only disadvantage I could foresee would be that some of the gardens in the Loire may not be in full bloom yet. Otherwise, I would say its an ideal time to visit.
We have visited the Normandy area on several times, both in the Spring and again in late November. It was snowing in November, no crowds, and it was our best visit. Also, if you go on a tour, try to visit a place called, 'Dead Man's Corner'. The little museum is wonderful. They also have several pieces of equipment and uniforms from 'Band of Brothers.'
