Reserved a hotel room in Colleville-sur Mer, but can not buy train tickets to that destination. Just assumed there was a train station there. Now I must figure out how to get there from Amiens,FR. Can you help, please?
Hi, I like being in Amiens, a very interesting and historical place. What I would do is be open to renting a car. First, take the regional train from Amiens to Paris. Gare du Nord is where it stops. You need to get to Gare St. Lazare to access the Normandie area. You could get from Nord to St Lazare by Metro, I'd rather not depending on the luggage. There is a bus #26 to St Lazare outside of Gare du Nord, a stop for numerous buses , one being #26. At Gare St Lazare take the train to Caen, better Caen than on to Bayeux, only because I know it a bit better. At the Caen train station or close to it is a rental car agency. Inquire there for the rest of the way.
Thank you, Fred. Will see if one of my daughters is brave enough to drive!
Teddie, Another possibility would be to change the location and stay in Bayeux. It's a wonderful smaller town and from there you'd be able to take one of the excellent local tours, so you wouldn't have to worry about transportation to the beaches or other historic sites. If you need information on D-Day tours, post another note (or check previous Threads here). Happy travels!
Teddie, One more note: the train from Amiens to Gare du Nord requires no mandatory reservation, the same with going from Paris St Lazare to Caen or Bayeux. You can hop on with your tickets.... good rides.
