Has anyone been to the Musee D'Orsay recently and if so, have they completed their remodelling? When I was there Sept 2010, only one floor was open and many of my favorite paintings were out on loan or in storage. Their Website says the remodelling will be done "Fall 2011." I'll be in Paris Sept 15-28 and hope things are back to normal by then. Of course, I'll also visit L'Orangerie and the Marmottan for my Impressionist fix!
We were in Paris a few weeks ago and stopped in the D'Orsay for the Manet exhibtion. Did not see any signs of any remodel going on. It was extremely crowded and we did not explore the entire museum.
We were in Paris the first week of June and there was a lot of remodeling being done. Signs were not d so the room that says one artists name has no sign of that artist in the room. Trying to follow Rick Steves' audio tours (which otherwise were very good) was incredibly frustrating. The paintings seemed to be there, just not where they were "supposed" to be.
We were at d'Orsay 2nd week of June, 2011. They had just opened a new exhibit, so was fairly crowded, but we saw no sign of ongoing remodeling. All floors and displays were open. Don't miss it!
for what it's worth, I found the D'Orsay not that crowded on the night it's open late. I'll admit that was a few years ago. I would also think the Manet exhibit would draw a lot of visitors.
We arrived at the orsay very early and used our museum pass to enter. We were able to tour the entire Museum, with the exception of the Manet exhibit. Things were out of order, but well labeled plaques were on or near each painting. There was construction on the second floor, right side, but the left was open. There was also construction around the restrooms in the back. I am sure most of what we experienced will be completed, but either way, it does not interfere with the beauty of art. Enjoy.
We were there the first part of June. The remodeling is not done but it wasn't a big hindrance to our enjoyment. The Rick Steves tape simply doesn't work well. We tried and got frustrated. Just rent them from the museum and it will be well worth it.
