I am interested in renting a bike and cycling from Melk to Krems. If I rent a bike in Melk, is there a place in Krems that I could drop it off? Or would I have to bike, boat or train it back to Melk. Are there lots of places to rent bikes from. If anyone has done this and could give me some advise that would be greatly appreciated! Thanks

We rented at the hotel in town, which meant we had to bring the bikes back to Melk. We did the boat trip back. I thought it was a little pricey, but it ended up being a lot fun to see all the sights we had biked past from the water. We rented at Hotel Zur Post and it cost 12 euros per bike per day. There used to be a way to rent in Melk and drop in Spitz (not all the way to Krems) but it was not available when we were there, and I have heard they have done away with it. When are you going? The Wachau valley was beautiful and you bike through so many wonderful villages. We went on the North side and loved it. We were there in September when the grapes were ripe and harvest was starting. I am researching and considering something very similar. I found this (but I have not done it)...maybe it will be what you are looking for. If you do this and you do it before october - let me know how it goes....
