We are traveling to Lucerne this summer and are having trouble finding easy-moderate routes for hiking and road cycling out of Lucerne. We are looking for a cycling route and/or a hike that would last us about a half day, including a stop or a picnic for lunch, round trip. All I can seem to find online are the hard core hikes or several day cycling trips. Does anyone have suggestions?
I don't know about cycling, but there are really nice and scenic hiking trails of all types on Rigi: www.rigi.ch Here is the hiking page in English: http://www.rigi.ch/en/navpage.cfm?category=HikeRIGI& Take the boat from Luzern to Weggis, ride the cablecar up to Rigi Kaltbad, and start from there. The views over the lake are gorgeous and you can hear the sound of cowbells coming from the pastures below. Or from Rigi kaltbad you could ride the cogwheel train to the top at Rigi Kulm an dhike back down to Rigi Kaltbad. You can also ride the train all the way down to Vitznau and take the boat from there instead of riding the cablecar down to Weggis. Vitznau is farther from Luzern so those options will take a bit more time.
Singletrailmap.ch and map.veloland.ch are two we use. Happy trails!
