Hi, I am planning a cycle trip this summer and am having a hard time finding some specific info: where are the train stops along the route? I have looked on the SNCF Ter site, and maybe I missed it, but was hoping for a map that shows "here here and here". We're only doing day trips and wish to train back to the hotel in Amboise because my son is only 7. Primarily I am thinking of a route that covers Villandry (probably gardens only), Langeais, and Rigny Usse in one trip, riding the train back that evening.
Any input on that would be welcome.
Do you intend to ride all the way to Rugne Usse, or take the train? The nearest stop is Porte Boulet. There are intermediate stops at Langeais and Cinq Mars. It looks as though the rail line runs north of the river and that some of the roads that cross may not be suitable for biking.
I think something like take the train from Amboise to the nearest stop at Rigny Usse, then ride to Villandry, cutting out the Azay le rideau part.

Source: Poke around the German rail site. Plug in "Porte Boulet" to "Amboise" and expand the choices to show intermediate stops for a complete list of the rail stations in between. Note that the TGV options are no good for you with bikes.
cool thanks!
here's what I just discovered: http://www.tourainefilvert.com
the bus goes from Amboise to Ingrandes, which seems to be close to Rigny usse, and also goes to Villandry. now I just have to translate the details, like do they take bikes, how long is the trip, cost, etc.
can anyone confirm if the leg of the journey from Azay le Rideau to Villandry is downhill mostly? the topo map seems to indicate that it is Hilly and difficult leaving Villandry but does not indicate the other direction.
