Word to the wise. MAKE SURE customs at Paris-CDG stamps your passport. On my return flight out of Amsterdam I was questioned because my passport had no stamp, hence proof I entered Europe legally. The customs agent in Amsterdam asked for my boarding pass for my flight from the U.S. which of course I threw out after 8 days. The customs at CDG have a reputation for not stamping passports. Make sure they stamp it no matter how many times they roll their eyes. It can save you a lot of hassle.
Mike,
My Passport was stamped when I arrived at CDG in May, and I believe also when I departed Italy in June.
Thanks for the Post! I'll watch for this on my next trip.
Yes, do go ahead and ask for the stamp at passport control. I went from Paris to Poland via Germany, and the German passport control was not happy with my unstamped USA passport, despite have a French residence card. I would have missed my connection as they discussed the situation. I agree with the above..deal with the "eye-rolling" and ask nicely /smiley for a stamp
Two weeks ago when I entered Europe via Zurich Airport, the immigration official put an illegible stamp in my passport. I too flew back to the US via Amsterdam and the Dutch immigration offical simply typed a few thing into his computer and was able to confirm where and when I entered the continent. Perhaps in addition to not stamping, they're also not scanning passports?
Another reason why I keep my boarding pass until I get home.
