Our summer trip is Budapest and Krakow. So we don't need to worry about Euros. Our inbound flight arrives in Zurich ~11:00 their time, after leaving Philly 6:15 PM (unfortunate reconnect in Boston). We have two hours in Zurich Airport. Given the time, it's likely we would need something to eat. It seems pretty silly to have to get a withdrawal of Swiss currency, especially as that could confuse the security for our ATM card which will be used in Budapest a little later that day. So the question is: Does anyone know if we can get a few snacks or morning beverage in Zurich airport using a few good old US dollars? That we'd get hammered on the exchange rate is not relevant considering how little we'd be spending.

Most of the shops at the airport will accept US Dollars, but will give a lousy exchange rate, and any change due will be in Swiss Francs. If it were me I would use a credit card for all purchases.

Larry, as Michael says, use a credit card. You could, of course, use "good old US dollars" but you'll get your change in "good old Swiss francs".
