Hi
Will be traveling all through German, Budapest, & Prague. Would it be best to just get Euros or should I also carry Hungarian Forint (HUF), and Czech Koruna (CZK). I will only be in Budapest & Prague for 3 days and plan to charge the hotels unless they off a discount for cash. Thank you for all suggestions. LYnda
You will need local currency to pay for things in cash. Just use an ATM on arrival in each country and take out a modest amount that you think you can use during your stay. If you have some left over, use it to pay for part of your hotel bill on checkout or just exchange it at a currency exchange (if it's a small amount the outrageous fees won't amount to much).
Even if you may use a credit card to pay for lodging, you may not be able to pay the restaurant, the ticket machine, the museum, the opera house, the bathhouse by credit card or Euro. I'd visit an ATM machine on arrival in Budapest and Prague.
This is a double posted question with more answers running further down this page. Don't understand why people do that.
I apologize, however, I only hit submit once. I do not know how there was a double entry. I appreciate all the responses. Lynda
Most places I have stayed in offer cash discounts. You could carry some USD and exchange for local currency at a bank. I never use to do this but have done it several times lately. Of course an ATM is an easy way of getting local currency. Suggest Hotel Pest in Budapest if you are still looking.
