Just saw a program on Cuenca, one of the "13 Wonders of Spain" in a new PBS series. The 13 Wonders are all Unesco World Heritage cities, making Spain the country with the most World Heritage sites. Is it worth a side trip from Madrid?
It's a neat place, mostly for the way it's sited with the newer stuff perched on the older walls. It's pretty full of tourists. I wouldn't rank it above the slew of places to the west. Nor would I try to get out there by sacrificing to the point that I wouldn't have three days for Madrid itself.
We had hoped to do a side trip to Cuenca from Madrid in April after seeing photos of the area. We didn't find the time but would like to hear about your trip if you make it.
