Corsica for a short day

Has anyone been to Les Calanches? We will be on a cruise that will dock in Ajaccio on a Sunday. The cruiseline offers a tour for $149 pp and I may have found a local private tour for nearly half that. Is it worth the trip or should we try something else. We've seen some pictures and am I out of line to think that it's not as spectacular having been to the Grand Canyon, Sedona and Utah? Maybe the pics don't do the region justice. Any feedback would be much appreciated. Thank you.

You might find better feedback on a cruise website like cruisecritic.com. You can find out there what others thought of that destination.

we've been to Corsica several times and never taken a tour, but as lovely as the rocks are i wouldn't spend that much money to see them. I don't know how long your stop in Ajaccio is, other than a "short day", but if you don't have time to go inland i'd just enjoy what you find in the city

Sorry, I should have been more specific. We will be in port from 7:30am to 5:00pm. I've looked into renting a car which would cost roughly 100 Euros plus a taxi from the port to the airport to pick up the car and driving there ourselves. If we can split the cost with another couple then I can justify the cost and the bother. Anyone drive in this area??

I was there in October with my sister visiting a friend of hers who lives there. She drove us up to Piana which is almost to the Calanches. The scenery is rugged and beautiful and the water is a gorgeous blue. But it was about 1 1/2 hours one way from Ajaccio along windy roads. And first you'd have to go south of Ajaccio to go to the airport for the car, then back through Ajaccio to go north. I haven't seen the Calanches up close there but it seems like a lot of driving for one day. Does your cruise ship leave Sunday night?

Yes most of the roads are essentially hairpin turns
