My husband and I will be going to Corsica in late May. We really don't know how much time we should spend there so we were hoping to just "go with the flow" without reservations. We have reservations for the first two nights in Bastia and then will be renting a car and are thinking of heading to the Corte area, Bonifacio, ajcajjio and finally Calvi to take the ferry to Nice. We could potentially spend up to two weeks here, but were thinking more like one unless we are having too much fun. So my question is, do you think we could find affordable accomodations in Corsica without reservations, or is it best to reserve in May. Any other fun tidbits you may have are also very welcome! We hope to do a lot of day hikes while were there. Thanks in advance!
Corsica is great! Bastia is really just a big sea port town and after a few hours you're done. Bonifacio is very nice and I'd day trip to Costa Smeralda e.g. Ajaccio is interesting but the good beaches are far outside. Personally I think the best place to spend a few days to relax is Calvi. Great beaches and also a very nice harbor and old town to spend the evenings in. Galeria and the Fangu river are a must-do from there as well. You can find accommodation in all these places even on short notice. But given the realtive scarcity of rooms prices are pretty high. If you can work out a schedule and prebook at least Bonifacio, Ajaccio and Calvi you might be able to save quite a few bucks.
Thanks for your input! I think we will be putting Galeria and The Fangu river on our list. Yeah, I was a little worried that it might cost more if we wait until we get there to find a room. But it's good to know that there should be rooms. I was a little concerned because like you said, rooms are scarce. I might try to work out more details on trying to figure out how long to stay in each place to save a few bucks, but at the same time there is something appealing about just winging it.
