Hola! I'm trying to figure out which is the best city to stay in the South of Spain and then do day trips from? Can anyone make recommendations. Also, train vs car rental, which is best. Restaurants, sites to see, off the beaten path things to do. Gracias,
Julianna
IMHO Split your stay in the south of Spain between Sevilla and Granada. Start in Sevilla and do a day trip (by train) to Cordoba. When you've completed your visit in Sevilla, rent a car and drive down through the Costa del Sol (Malaga, etc.). There are many different routes you may take with such stops as Arcos, Tarifa, Gilbraltar, Ronda, etc. depending on YOUR tastes. Arrive in Granada with at least a 2 night stay to complete your trip. I feel that Granada is very special and too far from Sevilla to warrant only a day trip. Hasta la Vista!
Bob gave a great suggestion. Seville and Granada are wonderul. I would only do Cordoba as a daytrip from Seville.
Last may we did; 1. two nites in Granada, then picked up a rental car and drove to..... 2. Cordoba for another two nites. Then it was off to..... 3. Seville for four nites. Seville is a great base. We day tripped to Arcos and the horse show in Juarz(awesome!) one day Then we drove to...... 4. Terrifa for two nites. We loved out cab tour of Gibralter! And then ......
5. Ronda for three nites. (Our favorite!) We did day trips to the Pileta Caves one day(what an experience), and to the hill town of Grazelema on another. And finally...... 6. Malaga for one nite prior to our flight home. IMO Malaga is not worth any more than one night. We reprised a trip that some friends had done. And we would do the same trip again, if we had the chance.
