Our family wants to see La Mesquita but I am confused about its opening hours. It seems like it is only open in the morning from 8:30-10:00 am. We want to visit on a Monday afternoon. Does that mean we will not be able to enter or is it open in the afternoons on weekdays? I keep reading conflicting information.

It's an operating church and open just about all day. Nine or so until six, at least.

Perhaps the time you are seeing is the time for services? Not sure what it would be otherwise as it is open all day. One tip: walk around the entire inside perimeter before you head to the middle of the space. You'll appreciate the "surprise" better.
