Opinions please: The later ferries from Tangier get into Tarifa at 16:00 and 20:00, leaving Tangier at 14:00 and 18:00. By taking the ferry at 14:00 that only gives us 5 hours in Tangier - not long enough for the effort to get there. We can't take the later ferry that gets in at 20:00 because the last bus from Tarifa to Algeciras leaves Tarifa at 20:00. Even this one, if the bus journey from Tarifa only takes :45, will get into Algeciras at 20:45 and the last bus from Algeciras leaves for Sevilla at 21:00 - only giving us :15 to find our bus, buy our tickets and what if the bus from Tarifa doesn't get into the same bus terminal as the one leaving for Sevilla? So, what about if we rent a car to pick up in Tarifa when we get off the late ferry and drive that to Sevilla? How are the roads? Is there another way around this I 'm not seeing? Is there a bus from Tarifa to another city that will connect us to Sevilla and leave us more time in Tangier? I can't find a car rental in Tarifa anyway - not open late enough anyway. Yikes! I'll lose the room in Seville if we have to stay in Tarifa the night we get back from Taniger. Is there any other way to get to Seville that night? (Monday, June 18)

Paula, I'm trying almost the same thing, only I want to get to Tangier and back in time to catch a train to Malaga from Algeciras. I've looked at all the ferry alternatives, and the one that might work for me might work for you too but I haven't checked returns from Tangier as late as you want them. Look at FRS ferry company. They run a free shuttle bus from Algeciras to Tarifa for their ferries from Tarifa to Tangier, and vice versa. I can take their bus at 8:00 and their 9:00 ferry to Tangier, for example, and reverse the trip in time for my train from Algeciras. I emailed them and asked how long the shuttle bus would take. Their answer was: the 14:00 ferry from Tangier arrives Tarifa at 16:00 (one hour time change). Depending on how long it takes for ferry passengers who want the bus to wander off the boat and climb on the bus (it's supposed to be right at the dock) the bus should arrive in Algeciras in under 60 minutes, which works fine for me.
