Hello! I need to travel from Paris to Koblenz on June 14 (late morning or afternoon departure). I don't know if I am just too tired tonight or what, but I am having some serious trouble navigating the bahn.com website (even with it being mostly in English) and wondered if someone who enjoys train scheduling might be able to help me with this. :-) I'm not looking for someone to do all the leg work for me, I'm just hoping for some tips/directions. There are two of us traveling together and we are trying to find the cheapest fares possible. I was attempting to have us depart from "Paris Est" to "Koblenz Hbf." Anyways, if anyone loves doing this sort of planning I would be grateful for some help. Best!
Ginny, I tried this website (this is the second page, giving you the times and prices):
http://reiseauskunft.bahn.de/bin/query2.exe/en?ld=96248&country=GBR&rt=1&OK#focus This is how the first page looks; I simply plugged in your date and times: http://reiseauskunft.bahn.de/bin/query.exe/en Note: this bahn.de not bahn.com
Anna - thank you for your help! Do you know what "no restriction" means? That is what I selected for the tickets, but I am not quite sure what that means. I haven't traveled out of the country in years so I feel a bit rusty with all of this. Thanks again. :-)
If you pick the right departure time and route and book on the DB Bahn site today, you can get a discount fare as low as €49.00. That fare is available for the 09:10 departure from Paris Est (one connection in Saarbruecken). For a 13:10 departure (one connection in Saarbruecken) the best fare still available is €59.00. Where did you see the "no restrictions" reference? I didn't notice it when I did a dummy booking.
Thank you, Tim. I think I meant to write "no reduction" rather than restriction. We are trying to figure out whether it would be more cost effect to book individual legs of our trip or get a four country Eurail pass. (We start off in Paris, head to Koblenz to visit friends, head to Brussels to see other friends, and then fly to Milan to spend 7 days in various areas of Italy.)
I can almost promise it'll be cheaper without a pass, but the wild card is Italy...it depends on where you're traveling there. And oh, yeah - many of us looove doing this sort of planning ;-)
Hi, The absolute cheapest way from Paris-Est to Koblenz Hbf is the route with a change of trains at Saarbrücken, where you continue on a regional train to Koblenz. Those are train specific and time specific discount tickets. If you want to avoid riding the regional train (I prefer not riding the Regional Bahn, esp with luggage), change at Mannheim to take the InterCity (IC) to Koblenz, which is 30 Euro more. In your case here on getting a rail Pass, definitely not a 4 country one, a France-Germany Pass, 2nd class, but that depends on where you're going after Italy and how many long rides you might be doing. Back to Frankfurt or Paris? From Koblenz to Brussels via Aachen?
"No reduction" is standard. It means you don't have one of the discount cards available for people who travel extensively in Germany. Those cards are good for one year.
"There are two of us traveling together and we are trying to find the cheapest fares possible. I was attempting to have us depart from "Paris Est" to "Koblenz Hbf." Anyways, if anyone loves doing this sort of planning I would be grateful for some help. Best!" (If you specify "Paris Est you won't get the Paris Nord Options. Just use "PARIS" to get both.) For June 14, the DB site shows a 39€ price for the 7:06 from Paris Est and a 49€ price at 9:10. These prices will go up if you don't buy them soon. But I don't understand what problem it is you're having getting fares. Are you entering the dates by using the calendar feature, or manually? If manually, you must enter 14.06.12. For Koblenz to Brussels, enter "Brussel Zuid" for the south station - I'm finding morning fares of 29€ and 39€ there for June 17 (just picked a date since you didn't give one) but the regular price is only about 60€. Don't even think about a railpass.
