Does anyone have travel experience with Condor Airline (also: Kondor)? Some of the reviews are not very complimentary.
I took a Condor flight from Frankfurt to Istanbul a few years ago. It was fine, just like any budget airline. I guess budget airlines get bad reviews for additional fees that people aren't used to paying, and for brusque customer service. If the price and schedule works for you, go for it.
Thanks, Will. I guess you get the service you are paying for.
Love Condor. Flown many times (4 roundtrips) from Germany to many places. Courteous staff, always on time, give the kids toys and treats in addition to the brief snack. They're great.
We have traveled 3 times roundtrip with Condor in both Economy and Comfort Economy. We have been very happy with the airline and it has become the first airline we check for prices when we plan a trip (they offer direct flights to Frankfurt from Halifax). They are definitely equal to if not better than Air Canada flights we have taken. Hope that helps, Herb.
Probably irrelevant, but a Condor airlines did lots of charters back when and did a lot of US Gov't contracts.
If it's the same, they've been round a long time.
I flew Condor from Calgary to Frankfurt in June 2013. It was BY FAR the cheapest air fare around ($500 less than the next "cheapest" option). And next to the friendly people and punctual flights that's pretty much the only but most important plus side. On the minus side: - the worst airplane food I've ever had (I can live with that) - only 2 movies shown on a few screens over the 9 hr flight time, no individual screens for your seat (I can survive that)
- the least amount of leg room I've ever had: I'm 5'7" with relatively long legs and my knees were ALWAYS touching the seat in front of me - if you are any taller and/or have long legs I'd suggest to consider a different airline
Thank you, Beatrix. It pretty well comes down to what's most important: lowest price or all the 'perks' other airlines offer - but for more money. I can live with very basic 'airline' food and limited legroom (I am 5'10").
I'm with Beatrix - just returned from Frankfurt and can attest that you need to bring your own food and drink to enjoy the cramped cabin (my wife could not bring down the seat tray on those 767-300s). Outbound, the plane seemed older and stuffier/hot with tiny TVs in several locations. Return flight was a little better with central bank of TVs and good entertainment. However, the terrible food and skimpy provision of liquids by far outweighs the benefit of lower price. Condor will need to spend some time on customer service (also noted at the Frankfurt terminal) and make vast improvements on their in-cabin amenities for me to consider flying that line again. Going back to Lufthansa next time!
It's a low cost airline which is now part of the Thomas Cook group. They used to be owned by Lufthansa, but that's long gone. Their long-haul fleet consists of fairly old (but retrofitted) Boeing 767-200s. As mentioned above there is no in-seat video and none of the amenities you'd expect in the second decade of the 21st century. Recently on a flight from Frankfurt to Miami the 767 had technical problems and an emergency landing on the Azores was required. Since they couldn't fix the plane there they had to call another 767 from Frankfurt to continue the flight on the next day. An hour after people were able to continue their journey the next day another technical error occured (on that other plane) and an emergency landing on the Bermudas was required. The plane was able to continue after a couple of hours but Miami airport was closed by then and people were flown to Fort Lauderdale and bussed back to Miami. That happened in the early summer of 2013.
