Concerts at St. Chapelle

Has anyone attended a concert at St. Chapelle? We will be in Paris Sept.20-25 and staying on the Isle St. Louis. Would like to go to a concert. Should I book ahead or wait until I get to Paris?

One of the most memorable experiences I've ever had in Europe--an evening concert at St. Chapelle with the sun setting behind the south wall of stained glass!

The right music (say, baroque period chamber music, Vivaldi Four Seasons or something similar, they know what to play to make a tear come to your eye at the magic of it), in that setting, with the sun setting behind the magnificent expanse of stained glass...it will move you, even bring a tear to your eye.

In Sept the sun should be behind the stained glass on the south wall of the structure, the idea would be to schedule for a time that includes the sun setting behind the south wall of stained glass, since that's a part of the experience.

It is a magical experience. We got our tickets the day of the concert.

It was one of the highlights of our France trip. We bought the day of the concert (could have even bought 30-minutes before the concert as they were still selling tickets then). They only take cash and the ticket office is closed for a long stretch of time in the middle of the day (I think 11:45 to 1:15), so I would plan ahead for those circumstances. Also, you have to go through an arduous security line to get to the ticket office.

This seems like a wonderful concert, I just checked online and the tickets look like they are 34 euro, is this more than the price you folks paid when you bout the tickets on site?

The concert we attended was a major highlight of our trip. We got tickets through classictic.com
You can check out their website to see what's available in Paris during your visit. You could probably easily get tickets when you arrive in Paris also.

I will add to the comments that the concert at St.Chapelle was one of the most memorable events of our trip to France. I booked the tickets from home and picked them up at the door. The concert was really full, so I would advise either buying them ahead or getting to the concert maybe 30 minutes before it starts. There are no assigned seats, so you will also get a closer seat.

Thanks everyone for the info. I have checked out Classictic and there are two groups performing while we will be there.

I attended a concert in 1995. When I got lost inside the Conciergerie looking for the box office a very friendly French native went out of his way to guide me past the court rooms to the box office. I really appreciated his helpfulness. Keep in mind that back then, and probably still now, the venue is in the same complex as the court house so you will have to undergo a luggage inspection to get in. When I attended the concert I wasn't carrying anything so all the police did was ask to see my passport.

This is what I like about this forum, stumbling across something like this! Are these concerts held all year? I will be in Paris this fall, and would love to go to one of their concerts. Sounds delightful!

Lisa: "Are these concerts held all year?"

I don't know, unfortunately, they won't let me stay in Paris all year.

But I think so.

Do be careful when ordering tickets from Classictic. We had an unhappy experience with them a couple of years ago. We had ordered tickets for a concert at La Madeleine in Paris, only to find when we got to the church that no such concert was taking place there. Classictic had NOT advised us, though they claimed they had, that the concert was cancelled. I had a devil of a time getting a refund and then when I complained on this board about them, they charged my credit card a second time. Bit of a mean streak there.

Kent, that's okay! I'm sure I can get that info on their website. Norma, thanks for the warning! I may take my chance to see if I can buy a ticket while I'm there. I'm going in the fall, so it shouldn't be as crowded as summer.
