Concert in Salzburg

My husband and I are interested in attending a concert in Salzburg when we are there this May. I've read about the Mozart Dinner Concert and the concert at Mirabell. Any others? What is your preference? Thanks!

I'm not positive about May. I've been there in September and October. From my experience Salzburg always has some music going on. Even the street music is good.

I would stop in the Tourist Information office, when you arrive, and ask. Chances are good you will have more than just tourist oriented performances to choose from.

There is always some kind of musical event happening in Salzburg. For the latest on upcoming events, or current, you can go to this site: http://www.salzburg.info/en/. It also has a lot of info on anything to do with Salzburg, and you might find it useful.

From my experience, most of these concerts are pretty interchangeable- expect a lot of "Eine Kleine Nachtmusik", "The Four Seasons" and "The Blue Danube". Nothing wrong with that if you don't listen to much classical music. But if you've heard these pieces a hundred times before and want something different, go with the Mozarteumorkester Salzburg for a full scale symphony concert, or Camerata Salzburg for chamber orchestra music. I didn't attend a concert of the latter, but their repetoire looked far more diverse than the usual Mozart-wig concerts.

If you're looking for a more "real", less touristy concert, hit the churches. There's usually something big going on at one of them (somebody's mass will be playing). As others mentioned the tourist concerts in Austria are generally good, and entertaining, if interchangeable.
