In the past we have spent July and early August in both Italy and France. I have avoided wearing shorts when touring and I have always been comfortable. However, I have never been to southern Spain in July and I wonder if modest shorts would be appropriate for touring? It gets very hot and humid (95-100F) where I live and I am most comfortable in shorts at that temperature. I do not really worry about "standing out" as a tourist because I am a tourist. However, I want to be respectful of the local culture. In some of the smaller villages in Spain and Italy the dress was very conservative. Any suggestions for being respectful and comfortable? Thanks
My husband and I have traveled to Europe (mostly Italy, twice to Spain) each summer over the past 12 years. Each year we see more and more men (including Italians) wearing shorts. My husband has worn them on a selective basis. It's so hot in Spain, I can't imagine men not being accepted in shorts. There was a lengthy discussion on the Italy board in the last few months about shorts. You might look it up.
