Does anyone know what the art along the highway on the way to Forbach, France? There will be colored circles, then squares, pyramids, triangles, etc. Made for an interesting conversation along the way.
Those type of things are all over the place in the northeast. Two schools of thought exist as to their origin:
1 -- they replaced stone age stuff torn down during highway construction
2 -- they are the remnants of a rampant Mayan civilization that has since disappeared -- probably as the result of early Viking raids
All over Spain there a large black Bulls dotting the landscape. In the south we even saw a few Flamenco guitarists and one Donkey! We enjoyed seeing these landmarks and took a few photos of them.
In Ireland, they place public art along new highway construction to appease the spirits that have been disturbed during the construction. There is a great stretch along the road from Killarney to Cork. They range from Celtic symbols carved into the rock to freestanding statues.
Thank you for the info. I too, took pics of the circles, etc. I think that is pretty neat! Have a good weekend!
I noted the art/sculptures located in various places along the Autoroute when driving from Paris over to Luxembourg and on to Trier, Germany a few years ago. I thought it a pretty cool beautification project (at least that was my guess as to why they’re there). Those bulls in Spain were "ads" for Osborne sherry.
