Cologne, Germany Hotels

I'm having a hard time finding a place in Cologe Germany to stay for one night in June. All the travel sites have mixed reviews for each hotel. I need a place with a large bed as the usual German bed is just not going to cut it for my over 6 ft tall husband. I also want something that is within walking distance to most of the sites and preferably doesn't cost an arm and a leg. Any ideas?

Julie, check the German hotel booking sites hrs.de and hotel.de as they've got the best rates for German business hotels. Now here is my Cologne hotels review. I've stayed at all of them and liked all of them:Radisson SAS: My favorite, queen size beds in every room, modern, stylish, great food, free WLAN, located a bit outside but with tram station right outside. About 15mins by tram to the city center.Crown Plaza: Perfect location downtown, tram station outside but everything within walking distance. The inside could need a refurbishment. The new downtown Marriott: right behind the Hauptbahnhof but in a not so noisy side street, walking distance to everything, quite pricey. The Renaissance: Located at a nice suqare with plenty of night life, also in the middle of the old town, very American inside, great beds. Novotel Köln City: Located at a little port right on the Rhine river, about 15 mins walk along the embankment of the river to...

... downtown. Average rooms, queen size beds, usually quite affordable though.Hotel Wasserturm: The hotel is inside Cologne's old water tower, which is quite spectacular. The rooms are very well designed, large beds, all rooms are quites, phantastic food, varies between expensive and quite a deal depending on what's going on in town. Location: About a 10 mins walk to the old town sights. The Maritim: All Maritim hotels are old-fashioned to ugly inside (they're not old, they just don't seem to have a good taste). Queen size beds, excellent location right in the middle of old town, moderate prices

Opps, since you can't edit or alter any posts here the correction of my typo: With regards to the Hotel Wasserturm: it's meant to say "all rooms are suites". Sorry...
