My wife and I, along with my parents, have 4 days to spend between Alsace and the Black Forest. I'd like to book rooms at one place for our entire time there and day trip to Colmar, Route Du Vin, Freiburg and other Black Forest locales. Can anyone recommend a nice Gasthaus or B&B on either side of the Rhine?
That's a good question. I'd be interested in any advice you get. <Bump>
So far, I've heard Hotel Rappen in Freiburg is lovely and in an ideal location within the town. A German friend also recommended Hotel Adler (http://www.adler-schwarzwald.de/en/), which looks awesome and has a Michelin starred restaurant to boot, but the location is not as ideal as we'd like. We like the idea of staying in Staufen as well, but are wondering if it might be a little too quaint. Such difficult choices...:)
Recently been to both towns. Would probably chose Freiburg to stay. Colmar is certainly worth a visit. We stayed at the Hotel am Rathuas in Freiburg. Very central in a lovely location. When we stayed there 18 months ago, they provided us with a free transport card for the duration of our stay. Very handy!!
