Colmar France is it worth spending time

Hi I will be cycling in this area this summer and have an option of coming back through Colmar by train before I head home from Frankfurt.
Is Colmar worth spending time? I heard it was very nice place to ss. thanks Anything you advise to do there?

We love Colmar! It's France and Germany rolled into one ;-) The flowers are incredible, the architecture is unique, the food is French and/or German - you can't go wrong there! It's an pretty town, and it's really nice to simply walk around and investigate what's around the next corner...I particularly like the 'Petite Venice' area with the canals. For a short trip, I'd advise doing what Rick Steves does there; either see his guidebook, or watch the travel video "France's Alsace" (which I can't find on his 'YouTube' channel, but I can find on 'Hulu' - but you can't get in Canada...grrrr). Soooo...I'd start with the Unterlinden museum...

Definitely worth it. We spent two nights in Colmar, and I would go back if I found myself in the area. Love the architecture, the canals, the Unterlinden, the beer, the wine, the tarte flambee... You get a bit of both countries and cultures there. rick's advice is dead on for a night in the town.

Definitely worth seeing, although I stayed in Strasbourg and did Colmar as a day trip, and was happy I did. Strasbourg has one stunning cathedral and a cute old section.

Stew, IMHO, Colmar is absolutely worth a visit! I was there last year and really enjoyed my stay. I followed the advice in the Guidebook and used Colmar as my base and took a day trip to Strasbourg. After visiting both towns, I was happy that I had chosen to stay in Colmar. While there you could visit the Unterlinden Museum. It's small but very interesting, and as I recall Rick has stated that it's one of his favourite Museums in Europe. Colmar is a town of canals, so it's very scenic. There are some nice restaurants alongside the canals, which make for a "nice dining experience". It's unfortunate that photos can't be posted here as I have a couple of great (IMO) photos of that area. If you have your bike with you, another activity would be to cycle to Equisheim or some of the other small towns on the "wine route" and sample some of the local Vino. Cheers!

I was there last year as well for 3 nights. I would absolutely go back if I was in the area. The food is great, the wine is great. Small town feel. One of the best castles of my trip is just north of there too. Very nice home base.

Yes, definitely!
In fact, every Friday and Saturday night ( and some holidays) they light up the town with these special colored fiber optic lights which apparently are award winning. They're on for 2-3 hours. We're going next month and can't wait to stroll around these lovely streets.

I'll offer an opposing viewpoint on Colmar. On my first trip to Europe, ten years ago, travelling by train, Colmar was the lowlight of my entire trip. After about 45 minutes in the town, I was ready to move on. Maybe it's better by car or bike?
