Collioure or Cassiss

Leaving Barcelona after a 10 bus tour, and have two days before Arles and surrounds (6n). Collioure or Cassiss for the two nights?

A second vote for Cassis after having been to both.

Marina - I have been to both and really liked Cassis and would love to go back. For some reason, I didn't feel the same way about Collioure. It was OK but not a wow.

I needed to be sure to justify the long travel day by train from Barcelona to Cassis! Other opions welcome

We spent a week in Cassis two year ago and I still think of it! Loved it.

Spent all day and 1 night in Cassis in October couple years ago and loved it. Picturesque harbor, nice sandy beach, great Market on Friday and best of all, a hike to the calanques where we swam in crystal clear water.
Would definitely go back!

I have stayed in neither, but have been to Cassis. Cassis is beautiful. One thought, if you stay in Collioure, it is not far from Carcassonne which is a wonderful sight. Another possibility along that route and allowing a visit to Carcassonne is Beziers. It is not nearly so picturesque as Cassis, but does offer beach and access to Carcassonne.

I didn't think much of Collioure other than maybe just walk thru. When in Cassis don't forget to visit the Calangues. There are reasonable boat tours avail for the lovely rock formations along Cassis shoreline.

Having spent a day in both, I would also vote for Cassis. I liked the atmosphere and the town much better.

Are you planning on stopping in Collioure on your way to Arles? We tried to find a place to stay in Collioure two years ago. We couldn't even find a place to park. The town looked lovely but there were so many people in such a small area. If you want to relax after the bus tour, I would suggest one of the little beach towns near Perpignan. We had only planned to stay two nights and stayed for four nights. Our high points were visiting Ceret to go to the modern art musuem and driving the back road from Collioure into Spain.

In the end we decided to skip Collioure and will go straight to Aix-en-Provence for two nights before Avignon. (long travel day) The allure of Provence was just too great! If we want we will go to Cassis as a day trip.
