Hi all. I was just wondering if anyone here has been to the Coimbra area of Portugal? If so, recommendations for "must do" activities and sights are welcome. Thank you for your time.
Rick Steves Portugal has a whole chapter on Coimbra. Even though it's Portugal's third-largest city, the central area is pretty small, and I was able to see everything I wanted to in a day (I spent one overnight there). I focused on the University, and I particularly remember its opulent library.
We enjoyed the university (particularly the library and the law school) and the Fado performance (it is a different Fado than that in Lisbon), walk along the river. Also nearby there is an interesting Roman ruin. Finally there is a dramatic viewpoint where the returning Alumni write and post poems.
