We're planning to visit Castle Eltz in Sept. We intend on staying in Cochem, Germany one night?
Has anyone stayed in Cochem? How far is the Cochem Train Station from the Cochem city center?

The station is maybe a 10-12 min. walk from the old town center. It's most atmospheric to find a place near the Marktplatz. Haus Andreas (see www.bensbauernhof.com/accommodationsrhinemosel.html for Andreas and other places in Cochem and other Mosel accommodations) is near the center. I usually stay on Loehrstrasse with Frau Hilken or Frau Mattes (both private B&B's.) Pension Dapper is very close to the station and to the river if the old town is too far:

Cochem is very nice. We stayed close-in at the Hotel Lohspeicher our first two nights in Germany, and really liked it. The hotel also has a wonderful gourmet restaurant you might try, even if you don't stay there.

We stayed three nights in Cochem last year. Actually, the hotel is across the river in Cochem/Cond. The name of the hotel is Haus Sonn'schein. Very nice room, has its own restaurant, and a direct view across the river.
