I am going to Chamonix in the beginning of June and am planning on hiking high in the alps. What are the best options of hiking clothes to bring with me when I am going to be in a alps for only a couple of days and I am packing light.
all i can say is dress warm! I've taken the cable car to the Aguile Du Midi in July; in the 90's at the base, below freezing at the top.
Hiking clothes can be lightweight and very packable. Think layers. You really only need one pair of pants---lightweight nylon hiking capris---brands like Sportif, Tsunami, Patagonia, Prana, North Face. One short-sleeve and one long-sleeve top---polyester is best. I like the Patagonia silkweight Capilene (some can double as dressy tees when needed). A microfleece pullover or zip jacket, and a wind and waterproof jacket (lightweight Goretex) complete the set.
