We are planning 2wks in France. Would like to fit French Alps in our trip. Does anyone know the temperature we are to expect May 16th for a few days in Chamonix? Plan to hike and tour. Wondering about the need for warm clothes.

If you take the cable car up to Aiguille du Midi, it will be probably be quite cold. I was there last May and there was still plenty of snow at this height. It was fairly mild down at lower altitudes. Bring a hat, gloves and some layers and you should be fine. I got by with a long sleeve shirt, warm wool sweater, and windbreaker. Don't forget the sunscreen and sunglasses too. It was quite bright.

Laura has some good suggestions. We were in Chamonix in late May last year and the weather was cool but not cold except up at the Aguille. What we noticed were lots of closures of restaurants, laundries, etc. It seemed that many places did not open until mid june. The upside was fewer crowds but the cable lift up to the ADM stayed busy. Have a great trip!
