Hi, I tried using Rick's train schedule page (German name, can't recall it just now), and since we haven't got our dates set for getting from Paris to Monaco (late August sometime), the site is not very clear. One entry says that it goes straight through with no changes in about 7 hours (daytime), and 9 for a night trip. Other posters on the boards say you have to go through Lyon.. departure time isn't really a factor, so what has been everyone's best route for the TGV? thx..
Try looking for a Paris-Nice connection. There are frequent trains connecting Nice to Monaco. SNCF is the French rail system; their site could be helpful since your trip is within France.
RailEurope shows TGV service from Paris to Nice (5 1/2 hours - no connections). www.raileurope.com
Here is a site for train schedule info - http://reiseauskunft.bahn.de/bin/query.exe/en
Good luck and happy travels!
Rail Europe's timetables are incomplete. Use the German Rail site given by Steve, choose Paris as your departure point and Monaco as your arrival point, and enter a date prior to 13 June that corresponds to the day of the week you wish to travel. (New train timetables will go into effect throughout Europe after that date.) After you get summary timetables, click on the arrow on the left-hand side of each route to see the connecting points, if any.
The direct Paris-Nice night train will be discontinued in mid-April.
The French TGV departs Paris Gare de Lyon every two hours for Nice. Travel time - 6 hrs 31 minutes.
The connector (Ter) from Nice to Monaco takes 20 minutes.
Be sure to buy your tickets on www.sncf.com, you can purchase and print your tickets at home. (It will need to be within 90 days of your trip). Raileurope is a ripoff!
Indeed when traveling within France you will have better luck with a French rail site. Sites in other countries don't do nearly as good as a job!
