City/Town for One Month Base in Andalusia

Traveling in November 2011 to Southern Spain for one month stay. Will rent apartment to serve as base for exploration of Andalusia. Able to rent car, but would like to use train/bus for most of stay. Want to include Granada, Sevilla, Cordoba, and "white towns". We'd like to be within walking distance of markets, bars, bakeries, etc. Currently looking at Nerja, Jerez, Osuma, or one of the major cities. HELP--need advice.

I haven't been to all the places listed, but I'd pick Sevilla. It's central and well linked with trains, buses and easy to rent a car. Wonderful city too. You wouldn't get tired of it after a month.

You'll be mad as a hornet if you spend a month in Seville, especially with a car. I know th eplace cold; a couple of months ago it took me more than an hour to get from the southern bypass into the city center. Also, Seville is way the heck on the western edge of Andalusia. Cordova is smaller and would work well. It would also let you branch out to places like Ciduad Real and the neat part of eastern Portugal just west of Badajoz. You might get a bit tired of a whole month in Andalucia. Using one of the small towns for a month-long base will be monotonous - - you'll wind up eating supper in the same place every third niight, etc.
