We are going on a family trip with our 3 college kids in May and beginning in Rome (3 nights) then to Cinque Terre (2 nights) and then want to travel to Switzerland by train. We have 4 days before we need to be back in Rome for our flight home on the 5th morning. Where should we go? Should we look at flying back to Rome? Any way to take the train back through Venice in any timely fashion? Please advise! Our daughter is studying abroad in Rome and can make travel arrangements. Thank you!!
Some information on the backend of your message. If you stay in Muerren, Wengen or Lauterbrunnen (highly recommended coming from Italy), you are about 8.5hrs by train to Venice. Venice/Rome takes 4.5hrs by train. Lauterbrunnen/Rome (skipping Venice) will take 8.0hrs-9.0hrs with 3-4 train changes. I hope that your flight out of Rome is not before 10:00am. If yes, I suggest that you spend your last night in Rome or in Fiumicino. If you stay further north, you won't make it.
Now the front end. The CT to Interlaken Ost will take 7.5hrs. by train. If your daughter is looking into tickets from Italy to Lauterbrunnen, Wengen or Muerren, you won't be able to buy them in Italy. The closet that the Italian agent computers will get is Interlaken Ost. They can see the towns and villages mentioned above on their computers. PM me and I can tell you why.
Hi Cynthia.
Have you thought of flying out of Milan? Just a thought. You might want to travel back to Rome with your daughter.
