Cinque Terre to Beaune

Hello. We will be traveling from Vernazza Cinque Terre to Beaune May 14 (Sat. evening) or Sunday the 15th. I've been looking at train schedules and find 12 - 14 hr times with 2-4 changes. I've been using the Bahn site. Any advice on the best way to get to Beaune? Should we spend the night someplace along the way to make the trip more pleasant, or do a night train? The Bahn site indicates we can't purchase tickets via the internet...any tips on that? (I'm such a novice :-) Thanks for your help.

Wow! You're right (of course)! Using the bahn site I tried several connections, such as Avignon, Basel, Lyon but all of them are really long. As an example, in 2007 we wanted to go from Aix-en-Provence to Florence but decided not to do an overnight train because we would have had to spend several hours in Pisa arriving there at 2am also I can't sleep on trains because of the frequent stops. So we decided to re-visit the Cinque Terre for 2 nights which we thoroughly enjoyed. Broke up the long train rides and we had a vacation from our vacation as Rick would say.

If you leave Vernazza early in the am, you can get to Nice, France, at about mid-day. One or two train changes would be required, probably Genova at least. Spend the afternoon and evening in Nice, then go to Beaune the next day. I've taken the train from CT to Paris in one day, traveling thru Nice. It was a very long day and involved 3-4 train changes.
