Don't know of an actual town, but maybe you're referring to the "Weihnachtsdorf" which is a Christmas village inside the famous Käthe Wohlfahrt Christmas Store in Rothenburg.

Two Xmass ago we attended the XMass market in Nuremberg. I believe it is the largest XMas market in Germany.
We also went to XMas stores in Bamburg, which is just a short distance away by car.
My wife thoroughly enjoyed both.
My buddies and I enjoyed the Gluvine and Nuremburg Brats!!
