Hi, We'll be staying in the Salzburg and Innsbruck areas. We plan to visit Salzburg, Innsbruck, Kufstein, Seefeld, Hall in Tirol plus Brixen and Sterzing in Italy. We've been to these a few times (Kufstein will be a first) but never for the Christmas markets. Just wondering if anyone has any advice or insights as for what not to miss, etc. Thanks in advance.
Christmas market in Salzburg is wonderful! Try ice skating on the square and stop in at Demel for a hot chocolate. If you have never been to Melk, you may want to check out the fantastic abbey there, not sure about travel time however.
Salzburg CM is great. I visited Salzburg on a day trip from Munich, so I can't comment on the rest of Austria, but Hot Chocolate (or chocolate cake or eclair or truffle...) at Demel is a great idea. You walk right out of the shop and see the tiny kids trying to ice skate. Excellent christmas memory.
