Christmas Market Tour Actually OVER Christmas??

Are there any travel companies that operate tours to Germany/Austria where you actually spend Christmas on the tour?

I realize the wonderful Christmas markets close around Christmas Eve or so, and Germans seem to take 3 days for the holiday, which means everything will be closed.

Most of the tours I've seen are scheduled early in December so that you're home for Christmas. However, my vacation schedule is such that I'd like to spend Christmas on a tour.

VikingRiverCruises.com does several cruises over Christmas holidays that specialize in visiting Christmas markets. I've booked the Danube cruise from Nuremburg on 12/16 - to Budapest on 12/27. Christmas eve and day in Vienna. Stops at christmas markets in Passau, Regensburg and Melk. I don't see that particular cruise on the website tonight, but here is their phone number 1-800-304-9616. The river ships are nice, a very pleasant travel excperience.(BTW, These are nothing like a Carnival Caribbean cruise!!)

Hi Alexandra!

You can also take one of the usual tours that ends as close to Christmas as you can, then head on your own to somewhere like Salzburg for extra days over Christmas, before you head back home. All tour operators allow you to extend your flights home to later, when you agree to pay extra for the service and fare difference.
