Hello! Arriving with my family in Brussels on December 23 am. Can't decide if to spend Christmas Eve and Christmas Day in Brussels or Brugge..... suggestions please!!
rocio, There will probably be more to see and do in a larger centre like Brussels. Also, you'll have to consider how many restaurants and other facilities will be open at that time of year. Good luck!
Most sights and restaurants will be closed--possibly on the 26th as well. Stay in Brussels, which is a major European capital, since more things will be open. Bruges will be a ghost town. By the way, you might want an apartment so that you can have your own Christmas meal rather than dining in one of the few restaurants that might be open Christmas Day. It can be lonely and dismal.
Thank you all for your replies!
I'm interested in hearing from anyone who has been in this area during these days as I will also be in Belgium over Christmas (staying in Brussels). From my research so far, Christmas markets and other sites will be open on these days so I am not expecting ghost towns. I hope I will not be disappointed.
Brugge isn't quite a ghost town over Christmas, because a lot of people visit during their vacation (like in a certain movie that had "Bruges" in the title). But your dining options will be larger in Brussels.
And if you're in Belgium during this time, don't miss Hasselt's Winterland. Best to visit either on a weekend night when it's at it's liveliest, or Thursday and Friday during the day, because the city market is held across the street.
