Chinatown Paris?

I'm heading to Paris for a short trip, and my mother wants me to bring back some Asian items such as French soysauce. I have read there is a Chinatown in Paris. Does anyone have an idea of where it is located and how I can get there via public transport? Thanks in advance.

It's in the 13th Arrondisement and you can get there by Metro. Look for the Porte d'Ivry.

Thanks Doug. So I am assuming you have visited Chinatown Paris. Is it worth seeing? Or can I find items like soysauce in other shops? I am only spending 3 days in Paris.

Sorry to have given you that impression. No one had answered your question and at least I know where it is.

But I don't know what you mean by French soy sauce. Maybe Vietnamese fish sauce? I'm pretty sure you could get anything in Austin that might be available in Paris. It's not like they add snails to the ingredients in France.

OK, thanks for the reply anyway Doug. When I say Vietnamese soy sauce, I mean a brand that's only found in France according to my mother.

Try the Epicure grocery store next to Bon Marche on rue de Bac. The store carries a wide variety of international food items. It is worth the trip.

Chinatown in Paris is not really visually exciting, unless you are shopping for Asian food (or wanting to eat it). And it's quite a distance from most of the tourist attractions. There is an excellent Southeast Asian grocery in the 5th, which should have the condiment you are looking for. It is Thanh Binh, 29 place Maubert (Metro Maubert Mutualite). That is a more interesting neighborhood for touring.

We took the metro to the Chinatown in Paris.

We were wanting to have some dim sum, which we enjoy sampling in various cities. Unfortunately it was a Sunday and everything was closed. We were stunned, as that is the busiest day of the week for dim sum around here. If you go, avoid going on a Sunday.

John
There's 2 asian part in Paris. As peopel said.. not real exciting. Just remember you have to transport the soy back home, and it will be over 3 oz.

As an Asian girl.. the soy taste the same as home as it did there. Not sure what you mom wanted.

I've been to many Chinatowns around the USA like in NYC and San Francisco. When I'm in Paris, is it worth it for me to go to Chinatown? Is Chinatown in Paris any different than from the big cities in the USA, and would it be a waste of time for the short time I have in Paris to go to Chinatown? I would think when in Paris, I should have some great French food! It does seem like some of you don't think Chinatown Paris is all that great.
John, have you tried Central Market in Austin? I'm amazed how much they have there!

I've lived here and there and visited Chinatowns in Vancouver, San Franciso and NY...and during a "short trip" to Paris i sure wouldn't waste time going to our Chinatown. When i want non'supermarket soy sauce i go to the Japanese grocery, 46 Rue des Petits Champs, within walking distance of Opera. That's also where i stock up on panko...world's best bread crumbs.
